League 2 Cup Final Ahoy Then - The Bees V Imps

Last updated : 26 February 2011 By Neil Hobbs

Lincoln will go into this game against Barnet, pleased that it is away from home. Barnet, far from the land of milk and honey,  lay marooned to the bottom of the Football League. They must find their sting and fast.  Both managers will be stressing the psychological importances of this one, the bees know this is one they have to win, they can win and they will win if they play to their potential.  Stevie T, a Trevor Carson  Punt from home,  will say that this is the perfect trip to get back to winning ways but only if we apply ourselves  The Imps do not want to stretch a winless run to four and begin to get sucked back in do we?

 The Teams & Schemes

Bee’s manager Manager Paul Fairclough appears to have got in first on the psychological front signing Kwame JJ Adjeman-Pamboe last night from Tampa Bay in the MLS. The 23-year-old striker’s arrival will vie for a spot up front with Steve Kabba and the returning Izale McLeod,  with the bees perhaps changing from 4-3-3 to their favoured 4-3-3 given two suspensions.  Glen Southam and Anthony Pulis will miss the game through suspension, weakening the midfield massively.  Keeper Cole starts so expect a hero or panto villain performance from him. Grimes, Facey and Mad Mac should get plenty of opportunity, given defenders Dennehy and Leach are also out with foot injuries. The Imps are missing Hoyte but are otherwise at full strength.

Recent Meetings

The Imps have lost 8, drawn 2 and won only 3 of the 13 games.  Last season 1810, including 362 Imps saw City win 2-1. A swift counter saw Cian Hughton drill home on 30 minutes before, Yakubu nodded a heart breaking equaliser on 75 as the defence went to sleep. LJL – Lenell John-Lewis remember him – won it with a bullet header from a sweet Joe Anderson cross with 93 minutes on the clock

Recent respective form guides

Barnet's home form is as woeful as our own, so perhaps it is better that we have our away form to fall back on.  The Bees have stung once in their last six homes, drawn 1 and lost four, scoring 5 and conceding 11. The Imps meanwhile drew last time out at Aldershot, winning 4, drawing 1 and losing 1, with 12 goals for and 13 against in our last 6 away games.  Billed as a key relegation battle a month ago, bottom Club Barnet will still be treating this as a cup final. Thus so must we.

FootyMad's prediction ...

Neil: Our forward line has been waiting for this one you feel but it wont be easy. A return to the high scoring days at Barnet 5-2 Imps

Vic Erzantarz: They have a lot that can hurt us and this is a key test of what Stevie T & Brushy have been installing in our Mighty Imps I will be happy with a draw but 1-0 to the mighty Imps it will be

Ivan Impgrass:  As the resident pessimist even I see an Imps win today but it wont be easy  2-1 to the mighty Imps.
