The Imps went one nil down following a Josh O'Keefe handball on 17 minutes which saw a penalty converted by Anthony Charles, a conversion, in rugby parlance, that Trevor Carson's hand was millimetres away from pushing away.
The penalty strangely stopped Lincoln's open and counter attacking play from the start and seemed to take the wind out of their sails.
Minutes after the restart for the second half, Alex Rodman put the Shots 2-0 to the good, with a goal from the inside of the penalty box beating the defence and Carson.
However this - and a failed penalty decision against the Shots for a similar handball in the area - seemed to up Lincoln's workrate - a reverse of the first half which saw more McCallum inspired moves up the pitch. Josh O Keefe on 64 got a header back from a cross by Jamie Clapham and a few minutes later a header from Paul Green was saved miraculously.
With Aldershot tiring badly towards the end of the game, Lincoln's pressure for an equaliser suddenly hit home. Scoring his 12th goal of the season was Ashley Grimes on 86 minutes from close range.
Lincoln's pressure continued with another header from the Imps going just past the post, but despite all this pressure, the Imps see themselves with just one defeat in eight games and 19 points out of the last 24 from yet another battling performance from the braves of Steve Tilson.
