Howe returned to Peterborough a month early after failing to convince Chris Sutton he was fit, or that he was interested. However today Bob Dorrian has alluded to the fact that perhaps Howe hadn't hit the standards expected.
During a conversation in the Lincolnshire Echo Dorrian said:
"One player does not make a team. We could have easily bought Rene Howe and paid £150,000 for him – I am sure the fans would not have thanked us."
The suggestion is hitting back at certain internet commentators who suggest City need to spend big in the transfer window in order to stave off the threat of relegation. However Dorrian perfectly illustrates the dangers this strategy can bring.
Indeed if in July we had signed Howe for £150,000, then many fans would have seen this as a sign of our ambition. However five months on it has become clear that the answer is not Howe, but Why? Specifically why was a player of his lethargy ever rated at £150,000?
