Former Imps loanee Anthony Elding is hoping a decent outing for Crewe in the last game of the season will lead to him being welcomed back into the fold at Gresty Road.

Alex were relegated on the final day after losing 3-0 at home to champions Leicester, and Elding came off after 63 minutes, however before the match Elding had stated his desire to remain at Crewe.

Elding told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm playing here because I want to play football for Crewe Alexandra.

"When I get chances, I must take them. We all want the best for the club."

Elding, 26, made his first Alex appearance since leaving Sincil Bank in the 4-3 defeat at Stockport prior to the seasons end, but failed to score.

The former Leeds striker added: "The manager has said that every week it's an open team sheet.

"I feel that since I've been back at Crewe I've trained really hard and I got my chance against Stockport. I think I did alright while I was on loan at Lincoln as well. It's been a disappointing season on the whole, and I feel I've got a lot more to give."

Elding scored three goals for the Crewe this season, all of which came in the opening month of the campaign and added three more while on loan at Sincil Bank.
