Gareth Evans will sign the deal to make him a Bradford City player on July 1st after snubbing the Imps in favour of a move to Valley Parade.
Evans had agreed terms with Lincoln, but while an agents fee was being discussed it's revealed that Bradford City made an 11th hour bid for the striker, and overspent in order to get their man.
Its the second year in a row City have missed out on a player thanks to the involvement of their more illustrious opponents, having been priced out of a move for Mickey Boulding last season. However after a poor season Boulding now finds himself looking for another club, with significantly less of a reputation.
Evans himself admits the lure of playing in front of 12,000 fans every week helped seal the deal for Stuart McCall, despite the player being close to a deal with City.
A Rival Imps site has led with the following article - http://www.rivals.net/news/pgarticle.aspx?artid=13762_5395760&id=45
and LCM feels it has to retort.
The site feels that City only having 'one recognised striker' means we'll have a terrible season - LCM disagree's. At present it is June 23rd, still plenty of time to draft in a fresh face or four. Rob Burch's deal last season wasn't concluded until early July, so quite often not rushing in for a player pays dividends.
As for the sites claim that Peter Jackson 'only pays money for a certain standard of player' - perhaps Janos Kovacs (third in the player of the year ratings) and Adrian Patulea (second in said vote) do not fall into this catergory. Both players were subject of a small transfer fee, and both performed well.
Reprting like this on an inferior site does nothing at all for the club at this stage of the season. LCM is currently not panicking about the signings situation having been impressed with the capture of both Butcher and Fagan.
Perhaps this rival site might be better advised to sit tight and wait to see what signings are pulled out of the bag.
