Stefan Oakes has agreed the move to City after turning down a fresh contract offer from Wycombe Wanderers.
A left-footed midfielder, Oakes began his career at Leicester. While at Leicester, he was part of the 2000 League Cup winning side. He then moved to Notts County after short loan spells at Walsall and Crewe.
Despite being a regular starter and fans' favourite at Notts County, he rejected a new contract in the summer of 2005 and moved to their League Two rivals, Wycombe Wanderers in search of some success.
Oakes was a regular in the Wycombe first team during the 2005-06 season when he was heralded by then manager John Gorman as "The best passer of the ball probably in the country." This season oakes racked up his 95 appearance for the Chairboys in their quest for promotion.
Stefan's brother Scott was also a professional footballer famously turning out for Luton in the same side as John Hartson during a mid ninties cup run. Their father Trevor Oakes is a guitarist in the band Showaddywaddy.
Oakes signs on a two year deal, and his transfer can be considered something of a coup. City seem at last able to match our competition in the hunt for quality signings, so expect more to follow.
