"Torquay battle and scrap, and they made it hard for us, but we just had to match them for that and the little bit of quality we had shone through," Kerr told the Lincolnshire Echo.
The midfielder also heaped praise on-loan striker Davide Somma, who has already netted five goals in as many games, with the club hoping to extend the deal with Leeds beyond one month.
"I don't want to say too much because he might end up going somewhere else, but he works hard for the team. He's obviously not had his chance at Leeds but he's come here and done well for us.
"He's a natural goalscorer but he's not just all about that. He enjoys it here as well and hopefully we can keep him until the end of the season."
