The Imps kick off the new campaign with a friendly on Thursday away at TuS Celle in Germany - but who are TuS Celle and where do they play their football?
The German lower league structure is a mess, split by region. Under the Bundersliga which we all know is 'Bundersliga II', and then a recently formed 'Liga 3'. However once we delve deeper the league begin to split into regions, with TuS Celle's path being taken by Regionalliga Nord, or 'The North region'. It was in this league that they plied their trade last season. However following an appalling finish they now reside in the Oberliga Niedersachsen, which is effectively the fifth tier of German football, comparable with the Blue Square Premier.
The failed to pick up a single win since February, there last success being a 3-1 win over VFL Maschen on February 27th. Since they they have suffered defeat after defeat, conceding over 80 goals and finishing in the bottom three in Regionalliga Nord.
Their ground is far from humble though. In July of 2001 Bayern Munich visited for a friendly and 12,000 packed into the humble ground, named after former chairman Gunther Volker (a name which bears a striking resemblence to the character 'Gunther Vogel' from The Sun newspapers 'Striker' comic strip).
The star of TuS Celle is a striker going by the name of Benjamin Zeising, a 25 year old local lad who hit 18 goals last season. They also feature former hannover 96 midfielder Danny Feldmann and 35 year old former Werder Bremen defender Andre Muller.
The Imps will feature all their new signings and trialists, including highly rated ex Spurs youngster Cian Houghton who will be pressing for a full time contract with City.
