Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton says the success of last season's loan signings has made it more difficult to bring them back to Sincil Bank.Loanees Davide Somma, Nathan Baker and Chris Herd all played key roles in maintaining the Imps' league status.
Sutton told BBC Lincolnshire: "Most of the players we brought in did well and now clubs at a higher level want them.
"But that suggests that when others weren't prepared to take a chance on them, we were doing something right."
Sutton added that other factors may count against Lincoln in the loan market.
"If we can get better players in we will, and we proved it last season with the calibre of the loan players we brought in," he said.
"We're looking to improve but we have to have a sense of realism. I can dream about getting certain players in but this is Lincoln City.
"We did well to stay in the division in trying circumstances last season, geographically it's not an easy place to attract players to, and wages come into the equation as well - so people have to be realistic."
