So Scott ‘Screech’ Spencer, a popular lad at Southend United by all accounts, looks set to partner Grimes up front. Alas robbed of the aerial and physical presence of Facey and Hutchinson the Imps must rely on endeavour, skill, pace and tenacity, something these two have in abundance.
Scott has been straining at the leash, as all in the Stacey West could see last Saturday. Today sees him get his chance with him set to start at Stevenage, Those lucky enough to be there will get a glimpse of the future from the favourite to replace his partner this afternoon, goal machine Grimes, wo's form has kept him out thus far.
Let us pray Scott can get a wind behind him, for he is the most likely forward to remain here next season along with Gavin McCallum who lines up next to him today. They get on well in training but it will be interesting to see their link up play in the heat of battle.
Grimes will either be back at Millwall or plying his trade at League 1 giants Sheffield Wednesday next season. Hutchinson you feel has burned the last of his bridges unless he pulls out the stops and impresses. Facey is out for the season and unlucky to get a renewal despite a heroic second half to the season. He and Broughton are on big money, cash that has to be distributed across a thinning squad next year.
So lets have it Screech give is a glimpse of the future.
