The defender saw red after retaliating to a tangle with with Laurence Wilson.
Sutton told local media "It's a big disappointment as he's been brilliant in the games we've had him. Eric will accept the need to count to 10 at times. But I know as a player that sometimes you see the red mist and that's what happened."
Lichaj, 20, is only on a month-long loan at Sincil Bank from Premier League side Aston Villa, and is now ruled out until after the November 21st clash with Grimsby Town, meaning he will be next available for the away match at Rotherham.
However Sutton was quick to sing the players praises.
"He gets up and down, he's decent on the ball and his fitness levels are incredible. I think it's something everybody at the club should aspire to."
