Notts County star Graeme Lee is back on the radar according to the Echo. The Middlesbrough born 33 year old ex Hartlepool United, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers and Bradford City centre half has been released by Mad Dog and his partner, purveyor of the passing game John Schofield, as they plan for next season.
Lee told the Imps fans daily bible "If the opportunity arose then I would be more than happy to discuss it," said the former Sheffield Wednesday defender. I only live 20 minutes away and that's something that obviously appeals. But it's early days yet, so we'll see what happens."
It might a little more than 20 minutes with the Imps planning to train elsewhere from next season but we do like the sentiment Graeme and hope you are willing to half your wages at least given our budget.
That said Lee is no mercenary. He was a cult hero at the Monkey Hangers (Hartlepool) playing as a centre half and take no prisoners striker. Graeme then became the talismanic captain of Bradford City before being signed by Munto finance backed County. He played a key role in that Championship season and actually started this season as first choice centre back for County but Mad dog like Ince before him, does not seem to like him and wants to free up some of his budget.
At 6’ 2” and 13 ½ stone Graeme is a quality centre half whose only Achilles heal is pace. He would be the rock around which to build our side, with Danny Hone for once getting someone to learn from and rely on. Graeme would be a prefect captain and would lead by example at both ends of the field, averaging a goal every 10 games throughout his career.
