Internet rumours last week suggested that former Imps keeper Alan Marriott was set for a sensational six month return to the Bank to cover for departing keeper Rob Burch.
Burch is out of contract at the end of the season, and it was thought Chris Sutton was keen to cash in on the keeper in this window as opposed to losing him free in the next.
That left a space between the sticks, and the rumour mill had thrown the name of Imps legend Mazza into the frame. A return for him would also see a potential prestige friendly match to celebrate his 10 years as an Imps player, so rudely curtailed by Peter Jackson.
However speaking to his local press this week Mazza stated that he was hoping to see out the rest of his career at a club like Mansfield, and would sign a new contract if it were put in front of him.
This leaves Rob Burch as our only real keeper option at the moment, and early indications are he will be with us for six more months before departing on a free. As Chris Sutton succinctly put it last month 'It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out whats going to happen'.
Indeed.
