Rotherhams assistant boss John Breckin has all but conceded that Rotherham will not be the club for striker Michael Boulding in an interview to radio Sheffield.
Millers assistant manager John Breckin told the station: "If he decides against the move then we've got other irons in the fire."
An admission of this type normally suggests they are not close to selling the club to Boulding, especially given the off the pitch turmoil the club seem to lurch through every season. Further more his next statement could be a declaration of fading funds.
"We've spoken to several clubs about bringing in long-term loans."
This leaves the path open for both Grimsby and The Imps to chase Boulding, with The Imps the unofficial favourites for his signature. However it has been rumoured that Notts County are hoping to sign him, although with the recent capture of Forrester they may have little more than a passing interest.
In other League Two news Shrewsbury are close to signing Notts Forests ex Rochdale striker Gary Holt after the two sides agreed a fee for the 27 year old.
