The Imps made it three games without a win or a goal last night as they limped to another cup defeat, this time away at the leagues bottom club Darlington.
Lincoln old boy Lee Thorpe scored his customary goal against City in the middle of the first half, and another former Imp, the much chastised Kevin Gall had a lively game.
City for the most part looked blunt and lacklustre, with only a couple of Paul Connor efforts and a Chris Fagan chance to show for their endeavours. The 60 or so travelling fans booed City off the pitch, and not for the first time during Peter Jackson’s tenure.
More disturbingly for City their appeared to be some unrest between senior players and the younger faces in the squad. Rob Burch ran 20 or so yards to berate Moses Swaibu after the youngster let Darlington in, and Scott Kerr similarly had words with Lenny John Lewis after one of numerous poor square balls from the striker.
Indeed the performance was only marginally better than the pathetic 3-0 surrender at Dagenham on Saturday and leaves the Imps with only one cup competition to focus on, The FA Cup in November. However more concerning is just two goals from open play in seven league and cup games.
It’s Darlington again on Saturday at the Bank, and anything less than three points will see fans beginning to want the managers blood.
