Sources close to the energetic midfielder suggest that he may be on his way to Scottish side Hibernian after spending a period of time training with them, following his return to Gresty Road.
O'Connor looked to be on his way out from Crewe when he signed on loan for City, and his all action displays indicated he'd be a massive player in the City side. Upon his return to Crewe he made all the right noises about not ruling out a return to City. However the Crewe Academy player now looks like setting his sights a little higher than League Two.
O'Connor made his Imps debut in the diabolicle 5-1 defeat at Blundell Park against Grimsby, and despite playing in a side that was cruising to a mediocre finish he really stood out. His craft and guile could have been crucial in the coming season, but sadly as most sensible fans realised it was highly unlikely he would return.
However the door has not closed completely. Should Hibs not follow up their interest its strongly rumoured that Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson would prefer O'Connor to see out the last year of his contract away from the club. O'Connor vowed never to play for Thordarson again despite the Norweigan leaving the door ajar for his return. If he was to be farmed out on loan, and if Thordarson would sanction a move to a rival club then it's believed Sincil Bank would be the preferred destination for the Irishman.
