Although no deals are done until the money is in the Bank so to speak it would appear the Imps have a mystery investor on the back burner who has the ability, ambition and means to fund the sort of expenses associated with the talents of Millwall striker Ashley Grimes and Notts County’s Stephen Hunt.
With Millwall's machinations viz a viz contract negotiations for Ashley now apparent in a somewhat Somma-esque twist, this does not necessarily mean the Imps can afford to fund big transfer fees; but it does appear that the clubs revised ‘local’ investment strategy may be working. Early days though, let’s be thankful the team are not Conference bound and hope that today will bring a decent gate. A win over the league Leaders would give us the sort of headlines that would undoubtedly bring some of the missing thousands back.
Remember every thousand on the gate averages out at about £12 a head. Twelve thousand extra per home game would not only put the Imps back in the black but also fund the talent we need to add to an already exciting nucleus and tight team spirit. But it is the goal machines that really capture the imagination and sell the season tickets, something Ashley Grimes would undoubtedly do. A deal for him would put 500 on the gate and sell some season tickets for sure. Tilson has the neck now all that is stopping us is some brass.
