The original offer wasn’t enough for Yeo, but following a meeting with his advisor Jason Dunford and Keith new terms were offered. Yeo revealed that it was now his intention to stay with Lincoln.
The 30 year old ex postman arrived at Sincil Bank from Hyde and has netted 23 goals in 72 appearances. He has always been popular with the fans and Yeo was quick to pay tribute.
“I didn’t feel I could have walked away from our magnificent supporters having done half a job. I want to thank them for their amazing support last season myself and the lads appreciated it.”
Yeo is only one of six who have backed up their thanks by commiting their future to the Imps. Players yet to do the same include Marcus Richardson, new signing Jamie McCombe and Simon Weaver. The versatile Matt Bloomer and long term injury victim Chris Cornelly make up the other players still stalling over a contract. Keith urged those players to make up their minds.
“Our players are wasting time they need to hurry up and make a decision”.
Yeo’s decision is a big boost for Keith. Mark Baileys departure and Ben Futchers transfer request had signalled to a complete collapse of a successful City side. However whilst key defenders are replaceable, speedy dangerous attackers with an eye for goal are not, and Yeo is the one name all Imps fans wanted to see stay on for next season.
“Lincoln is a big part of my life and I was hoping a new deal with the right terms would be offered. After sitting down with Keith I had no doubts about signing a new contract which I will pen this week.”
