The Imps are heavily rumoured to be extremely close to bringing Macclesfield’s highly rated striker Gareth Evans to Sincil Bank in an effort to strengthen the struggling forwards
Local newspaper The Lincolnshire Echo reported this morning that the former Man Utd trainee has held talks with City already, and could be the second of three forwards to sign for the club in a week. Last week former Blackburn trainee Jamie Clarke signed, with Jake Robinson rumoured to be the Imps third signing
Former Imps boss Keith Alexander has offered the striker a two year deal in a desperate bid to keep him at Moss Rose, but it looks likely Evans intends to further his career by moving to City.
Evans hit 13 goals for The Silkmen last year, having initially signed for them from Crewe Alexandra. He spent his youth years at Manchester Utd where boss Alex Ferguson touted him as a ‘star of the future’. However despite this billing he returned to Crewe to pursue his dream believing Dario Gradi would nuture his talent in the same way he did Dean Ashton. However at the end of the 2005/06 season manager Steve Holland released him, and he was picked up by Port Vale boss Martin Foyle. However Port Vales budget didn’t allow for the signing of unproven youngsters, and he found himself at Macclesfield Twon under Ian Brightwell and later Keith Alexander.
