I had been reported that 16 year old Hobbs was an Arsenal target earlier in the season, but reports now indicate that Man Utd have joined the chase ofr the player. At 6ft 3" and counting Hobbs will cut an imposing figure at the heart of any defence and his talent was acknowldged when he became the youngster ever player to make a league appearance for the Imps against Bristol Rovers back in January.
It appears however that the Gunners will be the club winning the race with The Sun newspaper reporting that agent Charles Collymore suggested that 'a deal has been done and everyone is happy, we expect more news shortly'. Arsenal are rumoured to have put together a six figure compensation package to appease the Imps loss.
Hobbs would join Simon Yeo, Richard Butcher and Ben Futcher seeking pastures new, but his potential is undeniable and six figures amounts to a nice payday in exchange for very little damage to the first team squad. Whilst Hobbs is an outstanding talent he is also not an established first team player which means he may not be missed as much as someone like Paul Morgan.
