Scott Spencer had been well and truly left out in the cold by Paul Sturrock at Southend United. Nicknamed Screech, due to his long flaming hair, the lad had netted 4 in 12 and put in some great shifts either out wide or up front for Steve Tilson. The fans liked him too, yet just like at Rochdale he found himself squeezed out when a new Gaffer took the helm.
Sincil Super Saturday on March 12th looks to be a cracker with Screech desperate to play a huge part in beating his old club and proving Mr Sturrock wrong.
Incredibly the Leeds reserve game was Scott first of 2011 with Southend even shutting the reserve team door to the lad. Happily with Scott finally agreeing a severance deal he was free to join the Imps like a shot, eager to get fit ASAP..
Screech was in infectious form against United with a couple of back heels and cut backs that could have seen us score even more than the 3 we did chalk up against the Whites.
Lack of match fitness and the form of Facey and Grimes is keeping him from a central striking role, but you would not bet against him on the right should Howell move across into the centre. Carayol is a joy going forward but Spencer has the hunger, stamina and strength to track back.
Good luck Screech see you against Southend on March 12th
