At Sincil Bank this afternoon Peter Jackson admitted that The Imps had been priced out of a move for Posh's out of favour striker Rene Howe. Its rumoured that Barry Fry is asking for £150,000+ for Howe who spent last season on loan at Morecombe. That almost matches the rumoured £175,000 the Imps are due to recieve for Lee Frecklington, a generous price tag given the antics of Peterborough in past seasons.
Indeed it seems that Peterborough are still intent on taking as much of the Imps talent as they can. As far back as 2004 Barry Fry was attempting to lure Keith Alexander, Peter Gain, Richard Butcher, Simon Yeo and Paul Morgan away from the Bank in a massive coup. In the end of course he got all but one, only Captain Morgan didn't end up passing through London Road at some point. In return we got a small percentage of McAnthonys fortune and the wonderous Ryan Semple (in action last season for Deeping Rangers). Thanks Barry.
So with Howe out of the picture thanks to public enemy number 2 Fry (Ladak still at number 1 for a record 15,000 week) the Imps move on to plan C, or possibly plan A and plan A all along - Michael Bridges. Although even here their appears to be some confusion. You see Peter Jackson claims Bridges is still waiting to be told Norwich won't be offering him anything - only the Norwich official site suggests otherwise. They said last week Bryan Gunn wouldn't be offering Bridges a contract after they signed Paul McVeigh and Grant Holt. So what is the hold up?
It seems the 125 year is going to follow what can only be called a summer of discontent amongst Imps fans. The return of Richard Butcher hailed ane xciting summer packed full of promise and more importantly signings, but so far has delivered just one player with any significant League experience (Paul Connor). Will the young guns surprise us all? Can Jamie Clarke, Chris Fagan and Cian Hughton become the latest players to write thier name in the Sincil Bank hall of fame?
Whether they do or don't one thing seems certain - the name of Rene Howe won't be added alongside theirs anytime soon.
