It has been confirmed today that Gillingham have transfer listed two players, both of whom are rumoured to be attracting the attention of Imps manager Peter Jackson.
The first player to be told he can leave Priestfield is Nigerian defender Efe Sodje. It isn't the first time Sodje has been linked with City, having previously come close to signing under Keith Alexander. Its well documented that City are looking for an experienced defender with aggresion and passion, and Sodje fits the bill perfectly. Furthermore Sodje has previously played under Peter Jackson, spending two years at the McCalpine in 2003-05, during which time he captained them to a play off victory against City. Whilst playing there he also featured in the same squad as Iffy Onuora. Sodje has represented his country in the 2000 African Cup Of Nations and the 2002 World Cup. The only real drawback is that Sodjwe is now 35 years of age.
The other player to fall onto Citys radar is forward man Delroy Facey. Facey spent the latter half of the season on loan at Wycombe, but has since returned to his club after scoring just one goal. Facey started at Huddersfield under the watchful eye of Iffy Onuora, and briefly featured for Bolton in the Premier League, scoring twice. Since then he's become something of a journeyman, playing for West Brom, Hull, Tranmere, Rotherham, Burnley and Bradford, always scoring but never staying around too long. However Jackson did pay homage to Lenny John-Lewis earlier in the season by referring to him as 'reminding me of a player I had at Huddersfield called Delroy Facey - quick, strong and a handful to play against'.
Whether either of these players would step down to League Two again isn't clear, but Sodje ended the season at Bury and Facey at Wycombe. LCM could certainly see where both players may add to the side, although Pacey is similar to N'Guesson, John-Lewis to name but two, and Sodjes age may count against him.
