Some papers linked McAuley with a move to either Blackburn or Citys League Cup hosts Birmingham. However Keith was quick to shoot the transfer talk down.
"I've not had a phone call from anyone regarding Gareth," said the City boss.
"It's certainly news to me. Gareth has done very well since he came to us, and I'm sure anyone who has seen him will have been impressed. Players are always going to be linked with other clubs if they are playing well."
"I'd be worried if people weren't watching my players."
Local press were also jumping on the badwagon claiming to have a 'Birmingham insider' who confirmed Steve Bruce was "on the look out" for young talent like McAuley. It does seem likely however that there is smoke without fire on this occasion with Bruce unable to move before the transfer window. Blackburn have also previously been linked with a young Adam Kerley in the past, but there is nothing to suggest that they are interested in McAuley as they are also bound by the transfer window. For the time being McAuley appears to be staying put.
McAuley has quickly established himself at the heart of the Imps' defence, alongside Paul Morgan and Ben Futcher ousting Simon Weaver in the process. It was rough on Weaver who had only just claimed his place back from Jamie McCombe.
With Weaver on the verge of a move to Cheltenham Town losing McAuley would be a major blow as would the 'imminent' departure of Ben Futcher. Futcher is living proof that a bunch of press rumours mean nothing when it comes to clubs buying Lincolns players, and after all who forecast Paul Mayo's move to Watford?
