Former Imp Shane Clarke sensationally quit Boston United last night and will fly out to the USA in search of an MLS contract. Shaaaane was a popular and competitive player for the Imps before having his confidence shattered at the Imps. In an often used tactic by the previous regime, Shaaaane was forced to run around the training ground like other players in a bid to get them out of the squad and off of the budget. It left his confidence shattered the poor lad, but Shane did receive a deserved payoff from the club before trying his luck at Gateshead . However it has to be said the Pilgrims helped to rebuild his confidence giving him a debut in the Lincolnshire Derby against Gainsborough in the FA Trophy – a game in which he was outstanding in the middle of the park. Clearly Shane now feels he can do better than a non-contract deal at York Street telling Boston boss Rob Scott the news after the 0-1 home defeat to AFC Telford on Saturday. This does leave the Pilgrims in a bit of a midfield pickle with Gareth Jelleyman hamstrung and Rory Coleman’s loan spell from Scunthorpe now ended. But Ro Scott will not stand in his way and giving his ambition his blessing. “He wants to be a professional footballer and we won’t stand in the way of that,” said manager Rob Scott. But it means we are down in numbers. We’ll look to bring somebody in. But I don’t know if we can do that by Monday (before Tuesday’s match at Stalybridge Celtic.”
