Former Southend United left back Johnny Herd made a trip up to Lincolnshire recently although nothing was concluded prior to Tilson and Brush taking a break to recharge their batteries.
Standing at 5’ 9” the robust 12 stone 21-year-old full back is better than the light-weights we are used to. He has a refreshing tenacity not unlike a dog with a bone when it comes to wingers, with a clean challenge that has seen no cards thus far in his league career.
The management team however, are believed to be particularly interested in a secret weapon that will serve us well. Herd’s incredible long throw can turn defence into attack from the first third of our half and beyond, something that the Imps have missed for a while now (can you remember ex Imps Bimmo, Mayo and Jude Sterling)
After signing as a youth player in 2007 Johnny became an integral part of a Shrimpers youth set up that reached the fifth round of the FA youth Cup in 2008. He signed a two year pro deal in 2008/9, making 21 appearances in 2009/10 with the ‘incoming’ a popular sight. Last season saw him overlooked, making just 6 starts plus 3 as a sub before being released this summer.
