Stephen Hunt the former Colchester United and current Notts County left-back, and central half is just what the Imps need - a 6 foot plus calming influence style central defender. Weighing in at 13 st 8lb he is just the physical presence we need, but there is so much more to a clever lad who was an ever present in the 2009-10 championship season, largely at left back.
Stephen, surprisingly for his size, has the pace to match his superb positioning and all round adaptability, qualities we need at the heart of our defence. The key thing with him is that he is a solid, composed, consistent, big hearted guy who can be relied upon to match the requirements of either the man marking or zonal tactics of modern football.
His height and pace are great assets at both ends of the field, which is why the club was keen to retain his services for the 2010/11 season offering him a two year deal. This, despite an alleged interest from Championship teams.
This, barring last minute hick-ups is a massive coup for the Imps and the persuasive talents of Steve Tilson. Big Steve is also 26 as opposed to 33 in the summer, so maybe the fates are conspiring in our favour.
