Simon Yeo has attracted significant interest from Notts County as well as rumoured interest from Division Two sides Stockport County and Oldham Athletic. The pacey front man has a habit of turning games on their heads with crucial goals from the bench, but has stalled on signing his new contract with City. He has apparently been offered a one year deal whilst he craves the security of a two year contract. Both Stockport and recently relegated Notts County could afford the longer contract. It is a scenario very familiar to Lincoln as Stuart Bimson left under similar circumstances last season.
Ben Futchers imminent departure is a further blow to the fans. The imposing centre back has been outstanding this season following on from his leading scorer position last year and attracted the attentions of premiership sides Aston Villa and Bolton.
It is perhaps Yeo’s departure that will be hardest for the fans to take. Whilst Futcher has made his contribution over a full season Yeo’s devastating impact from the bench has made him a cult hero at Lincoln. Indeed it was Yeo the fans called for on the final game off the season over captain Morgan and prolific Gary Fletcher. He revels in the attention here at City and that rapport isn’t something built up in days, its built up over a two year period. Should he decide to stay at Lincoln it won’t be for the money but the fans, and it is players of his calibre and dedication that Lincoln need to hold on to. Futcher would command a fee and is still only young which deems his move inevitable, but at 29 and out of contract Yeo would be a loss without financial recompense.
Thankfully rumours that Alan Marriott is on his way out are so far coming to nothing, as have rumours of Keith Alexanders move to Grimsby Town. They’ve appointed Russell Slade as their top man allaying any lingering fears over Keiths departure.
