Mullarkey looked very lively in front of watching manager Peter Jackson, scoring once in a thrilling 4-3 win over Port Vale at Vale Park.
David Graham also netted as the forwards looked to oust Ben Wright and Kevin Gall from the starting line up. With just one league goal in three games City look short of idea's up front, but both Graham and Mullarkey have done themselves plenty of favours with this display.
Graham opened the scoring before Mullarkey had to restore the lead following a Vale equaliser. Vale then netted twice, and Ayden Duffy had to make a brilliant penalty save to prevent City going 4-2 down.
Mullarkey then pulled City level at 3-3 with his second of the game before Martin Pembleton then hit a late winner for City.
