City hold high flying Pirates

Heor of the hour
City drew a tightly fought contest at the Memorial ground on Saturday afternoon.

In truth City rarely threatened their high flying hosts, needing Alan Marriott to pull off fine saves late on from ex Imps Junior Agogo and Lee Thorpe. The result signified a change in fortunes for City and Ian Atkins (Brostol manager) as it is usually his sides who shut up shop and kill a game away from home. Indeed Citys rivalry with Atkins is well documented after comments he made about Lee Thorpe following a league clash back in 1997 between Atkins Northampton Town and The Imps. However Thorpe could not signal his allegiance to Atkins with a goal through the superb ability of Alan Marriott.

Marriot has been widely praised for his display in the game, making The News Of The World team of the week and prompting to Keith Alexander to comment 'he's as good a keeper as any in the lower league'.

However their were no such comments for the strikers who once again failed to make any sort of impact on Rovers. With Marcus coming on as a second half sub, and Taylor Fletcher nearing fitness one can only hope that this 3 games unbeaten run is just the start of something for City.
