Lincoln clinched their place in the play offs despite going down to their second consecutive defeat.

The Imps had to make sure that they kept any defeat down to a five goal margin otherwise opponents Yeovil would have sneaked in above them.

But the Glovers failed to take their first half chances and in the end had to rely on a late goal from midfielder Gavin Williams to give them a victory.

Yeovil striker pairing of Kevin Gall and Simon Weatherstone wasted a string of chances in the first half as the Lincoln defence was caught out time and again.

Weatherstone shot weakly after being put clear in the 11th minute and then Paul Terry failed to connect with an overhead kick after some neat passing opened up the Lincoln defence.

Weatherstone almost sneaked in behind the Lincoln defence in the 22nd minute after being set up by Gall.

But Gall went on to waste a superb chance in the 43rd minute when he missed his kick after the Lincoln defence was opened up by an excellent Lee Johnson pass.

Adam Stansfield replaced Gall at half time and put the Glovers ahead with his first touch after Lincoln keeper Alan Marriott could only push out an effort from Hugo Rodrigues.

Yeovil doubled their lead 19 minutes from time when Jake Edwards smashed a shot against the underside of the bar and the ball stuck defender Mark Bailey before rolling into the net.

Lincoln looked to be down and out but somehow got back into the game with two goals in five minutes.

Simon Yeo set up Aaron Wilford and the youngster smashed his first goal since signing for Lincoln two months ago.

Then a long clearance from Marriott caught out the Yeovil defence with Gary Fletcher putting the ball across goal for Yeo to smash into the net.

Yeovil were not finished and in the final minute of normal time Williams drove home a 25-yard free kick to give them victory.
