Torquay`s on-loan Morecambe midfielder Craig Stanley was the architect of a 2-0 victory over Lincoln as they moved back into the play off zone.
Stanley slotted through a superb ball to set up second-half goals for both strikers Chris Zebroski and Gavin Tomlin.
Zebroski raced through to round City keeper Elliott Parish in the 74th minute and coolly slot home to put Paul Buckle's side ahead after they peppered the Lincoln goal with a string of second-half strikes.
Impressive Stanley also proved provider as on-loan Dagenham & Redbridge forward Tomlin superbly slotted away United's second goal in the 84th minute with his left foot following an audacious stepover to wrong foot his markers and keeper Parish.
Zebroski could have doubled his tally in between both goals with a thumping 78th-minute strike that beat the diving Parish but crashed off the inside of the post before rolling across the goal-line.
However United did not have it all their own way and Ben Hutchinson was denied from point-blank range in the 70th minute when Gulls keeper Scott Bevan made a brilliant save.
But United were not going to be denied and after Bevan's super stop went on the front foot to secure their 10th home win of the season.
