Carruthers - Injured without an Imps goal despite impressing up front
Richardson has seen his current campaign plagued by injury and suspension but is hoping his season is back on track after three goals in four games helped the Imps to fifth in the table.

"The competition really keeps you on your toes," explained Richardson, "You know if you don't perform there is somebody waiting to take your place. It gives you an extra incentive to do well."

Richardson found it hard to break into the team ahead of Martin Carruthers and Franny Green, but with the pair injured Richardson has seized his chance to make his mark in League Two.

"In my view, that's been the reason we've turned the situation round, although I don't think there was any ever question we were not going to."

Marcus also acknowledged the contribution of Manager of the Month nominee Keith Alexander and his partner in crime Gary Simpson.

"The Gaffer and Simmo (assistant manager) always remained calm, despite the poor start, and their recognition is fully deserved."

A modest Alexander, meanwhile, was quick to praise his players following his nomination.

"It's all credit to them really," confessed Alexander. "You can't achieve anything without players and I've got a great bunch of lads.

"We've come in for some criticism in the past, but the team has stuck together, improved and we're now at the right end of the table."
