Once again the back pages of The Lincolnshire Echo were dominated by the Keith Alexander saga, a saga seemingly solely created for the purpose of selling papers. The same old story with no real new facts seems to have emerged with Keith apparently having already packed his bags for the trip to Peterborough, remebering to pack five of his best first team players as a memento!
Peterboroughs relegation will no doubt entice a squad of players verging on promotion at the third attempt, the opportunity to visit places like Boston and Rochdale surely too good a chance to pass up in favour of visits to Notts Forest and Sheff Weds. If reports are to be believed this is the 'dream' that Keith is willing to chase along with Ben Futcher, Simon Yeo and Peter Gain. Madness.
In reality Keith has never indicated he is ready to leave Sincil Bank and is unlikely to be one of the 91 applicants Posh supremo Barry Fry claims to have attracted. To strengthen this position it was reported on Redimps.com that Keith had opened contract negotiations with the Imps in order to extend his current one year deal. The Official Imps website used wording to the effect of 'in response to false newspaper stories', making reference to The Echo story in its own account of The Board opening contract negotiations with Keith. The club has always maintained a welcoming and embracing attitude to the local press despite constant 'Sun-esque' speculation regarding the future of Simon Yeo, Keith Alexander and the club in general.
LCM pleads with The Lincolnshire Echo to focus on events that actually matter to Imps fans such as injuries, suspensions and promotion news. Crazy speculation and apparently inaccurate reporting only increases the stress on fans already fragile hearts!
